Healing Steps

February 23, 2015

It doesn’t seem possible that it’s almost a year since our little buddy Zeke left us to cross the Rainbow Bridge. There isn’t a day that goes by we don’t think about him and remember the crazy, and sometimes exasperating, things he did. Fortunately we have other pets to take up the slack and to keep us on our toes, but he’ll always remain in our hearts. For anyone else who has experienced or is facing the loss of a pet and having a difficult time coming to terms with it, I came across a little book that may be of help and offer some comfort and understanding for how you feel. It’s called “Healing Pet Loss: Practical Steps for Coping and Comforting Messages from Animals and Spirit Guides” by Marianne Soucy. In her book Ms. Soucy deals with the guilt we often feel when we lose a pet (I should have done more.); preparing for the loss of a pet who is very ill, (Did I make the right decision?) and learning to deal with the pain of loss. Even if the loss is not new, I’m finding the book to be helpful is putting into perspective feelings that still exist for pets long passed. The author tells about her own experiences with losing pets in different ways and how that can affect our ability to cope. There is gentle advice on how to move on, but to still be mindful of the lessons we learned from that pet. By keeping those lessons close, our furry friends are still with us in spirit, and the unconditional love they gave us will always remain. The book is available in both paperback and e-book format on Amazon.

Since Spring doesn’t seem to be right around the corner, please keep your pets and yourselves warm and safe while Winter still reigns.
